Matt Proposes to Kelsey
Deep in the heart of the Rockies, nestled in the center of the world, time stood still for Matt & Kelsey on March 22. Today, Matt & Kelsey will take you on their adventure about love, laughter, and commitment, the journey of the relationship, and the inside scoop on the proposal. Let's get started, shall we?
HOW THEY MET
MATT: The first time Kelsey and I met was at my fraternity house early fall of 2011 when I stumbled into a room where Kelsey and some of her girlfriends were hanging out. We instantly hit it off, relating to everything from Iowa tradition to our favorite types of dogs. I made sure I friend requested her the next morning. We met up at another party, continued to flirt, just a little bit;) and the rest is history!
KELSEY: I went out for the first night with my sorority. A group of us girls walked back to our sorority house and the first friend I had met and I decided to walk back to our dorm. As we were walking back she ran into a friend from high school who wanted us to go with him to a fraternity that he was wanting to join. We decided to go with since it was still pretty early in the night. We went with him to someone he knew's room and randomly Matt walked right in and took control of the music that was playing off of someone's phone. I thought he was cute but didn't think much of it and we didn't really talk throughout the night. However, the next morning I woke up to a friend request on Facebook from him. Our fraternity/sorority ended up getting paired with each other later that week and I saw him out. We have been together ever since :)
MATT: The planning started with my first trip to Colorado in December. I met some buddies out there to go snowboarding on Keystone Mountain. I scoped out the top of the mountain with the help of some friends and decided that this was the place to make it happen. I wanted Kelsey to be extremely surprised, and had the idea of taking her somewhere she had never been before. Kelsey's parents, Debbie and Bob, also quickly got on board! We coordinated with Diana about the perfect timing for the proposal. Kelsey, all our friends and I took the Gondola up to the top of the mountain late in the afternoon. We stepped towards the edge of the mountain and looked out. I took a knee and asked Kelsey to marry me!! The experience was exhilarating, and I never felt so close to Kelsey in my entire life! I am extremely excited to spend the rest of our lives together:)
KELSEY: Matt can tell you all about that!! -- my perspective was that I was extremely shocked that he did it in Colorado and on top of a mountain. I had an idea that it would happen this year, but I had no idea when. The entire day took me by surprise and I was in shock more than anything. I wasn't expecting it at all at that moment and I am terrible with surprises. It still hasn't really sunk in.
ADVICE FOR OTHERS LOOKING TO PROPOSE
MATT: Make sure the surprise is kept as secret as possible and don't tell too many people. Less to worry about the secret getting out. Oh and never let the ring out of your sight!
KELSEY: Thankfully I didn't have to plan a proposal!! But, I would tell the future bride-to-be to not over-think it. I've seen a lot of girls worrying and wondering when they would get engaged and pestering their significant others about when it will happen. I personally think it takes away from the experience. It is more that just "a ring" and it is important to live in the moment and let it happen when it will happen. If it's meant to be it will be with time.
BEST MARRIAGE ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED
MATT: The best advice I have ever received is to make sure you are 100% sure about the person you are about to spend the life with. I have never felt so confident than when I asked Kelsey to marry me!
KELSEY: The best advice I was given was marriage isn't 50/50, it's 100/100 always. It is also important to marry your best friend.
So there you have it: Kelsey and Matt's story is one for the books, and the best part is-- it's only just begun.
After the proposal we roamed all over the mountain: first for some celebratory beers & cheers, then for some play time in the slides, and then at the top of the Summit Building, with the world's best view. Keep scrolling to see some more!
Cheers to you Matt & Kelsey. May your days only get better and may your connection only grow stronger. <3
